Food and Health Book Review: The Fat Resistance Diet

Last week I started reading The Fat Resistance Diet by Leo Galland, M.D. and I can't put it down.  This book clears up and connects a lot that I have been learning about health, food, weight loss and inflammation.  Dr. Galland believes  Leptin resistance- a hormonal dysfunction that disrupts the body's natural ability to regulate appetite and metabolism is the root cause of our nations struggle with excess weight.  Leptin resistance is triggered by inflammation.   Wow!!   I know that chronic inflammation is the cause of most disease like cancer.   Inflammation can be set off by eating certain foods like red meats, white flour, sugar and hydrogenated fats.   On the other hand, berries, cherries, walnuts, almonds, whole grains and fish  help to heal inflammation, as do cabbage, broccoli, garlic, and flax seeds.

This book has meal plans with recipes that I have already started to make.  This book is worth checking out and would make a good resource for a cooking library.  I will be sharing soon pictures of food I have a made using his recipes and food philosophy.

  1. I've done a lot of research in the leptin field and I have to say that I think that leptin resistance definitely plays a large part in obesity and diabetes but it's certainly not the only hormone at play. There are a few other satiety hormones that your gut produces that probably have a role also. Sounds like an interest read! Can't wait to see some of those recipes!
