New Glaze Color Test Results

Everything came out pretty much like I expected.  There was three glazes that I added stain to that didn't show the color.  I just have to add more of stain and do another test.   I glazed some new bud vases with the blue color tile in the front.  It's very pretty.  I was inspired by the colors of Ancient Egypt.  I often go to various museums to visit the Egyptian art galleries.

This is what my test tiles looked like before it went into the kiln to be glazed fired.  What a difference!

Testing New Glaze Colors

Making glaze from scratch is not one of my favorite studio activities.  It involves measuring large amounts of powdered chemicals materials like oxides, silica which is powder glass and more.  It's really just like following a bread baking recipe but some ingredients are toxic and I have to wear protective gloves and mask.  Once glazes are fired and melt together in the kiln it's of course very food safe.  I don't use any chemicals in my glazes that are not safe after firing.   With that said I made new glazes.   I want to change my palette just a bit  and add some pink and yellow shades to my new work.

I'm working on mugs and medium size bowls.  I'm starting now for Christmas.   I have some new ideas for glazing.  Here's some of my inspiration.  I don't know how I'm going incorporate these ideas but this is what I'm studying.
