Coming From Where I'm From - EAOC Collective Blogging Event

How I started making ceramics?

I started making ceramics my senior year of high school. I had to choose one art elective. I remember having to decided whether to join my friends who wanted to take cartooning or take this ceramic class I knew nothing about. Well, I made the right choice and this choice impacted my whole life. I loved the class so much I would stay after class to help the teacher clean up and watch her load the kiln. I was hooked. I knew in my heart that I never wanted to give this up. I have to keep doing this. This may sound strange but I felt connected to clay and this ceramic process. I still have my first piece I made (I have to take a pic and post a photo). It was a pinch pot with a dome lid. I worked so hard on this pot. I remember smoothing it and paddling the lid till it was the just right. I glazed it a white glaze with blue speckles. Wow, looking back and reflecting on that time is so amazing. I could see in my mind the classroom and the teacher so clearly. Well I'm just really thankful that I'm still able to work with clay to this day. To see images of some of my work

What is EAOC?
EAOC is a global collective of minority artisans who sell on Etsy.com. I have been a member of Etsy Artist of Color for about one year. I joined this Etsy team because I wanted to be connected to other artist of color. To share and pool resources to create awareness of our shops. I'm also a supporter who likes to buy handmade stuff from people who make them. EAOC is a great online community, that I'm happy to be apart of, and as team leader helping to make it even better.
